Geoparks Symposium in Jeju (Republic of Korea)
The 3rd Jeju Symposium, under the theme “For the Innovation of the APGN” (Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network) is the turning point for geotourism and expansion of awareness of geoparks.
This Symposium is an excellent venue for exchange on sustainable development and conserving our natural environment while sustaining local communities. It will comprise thematic oral sessions with guest speakers, selected oral presentations and poster sessions related to the main aims, as well as, symposium fieldtrips to the Jeju Island Geopark.
Participants are invited to enjoy the beauty of Jeju and share ideas for the direction of future development of the Global Geoparks and may also participate in Geopark Fair and various official/social events.
Jeju has been a test bed for various UNESCO programmes which recognized its beauty through its World Network of Biosphere Reserves in 2002, World heritage sites in 2007 and the Global Geoparks Network in 2010.
This Jeju Symposium will benefit those current member scholars and managing staff of Global Geoparks as well as future prospective members, and allow interchanging with other geoparks and expanding international cooperation to a much greater level.
The identification of the venue is of high importance as the Global Geoparks Bureau will assemble and evaluate the 11 new aspiring sites, and the revalidated Global Geoparks. The Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network will also hold its annual meeting at the same occasion.
