Gabon: Media professionals celebrate the World Press Freedom Day
The organizations of media professionals in Gabon will organize in Libreville, on May 3, 2016, a discussion forum on: Access to information and fundamental freedom as a human right.
In order to promote the fundamental principles of freedom of expression, particularly, the right to information and access to information, some organizations of media professionals (APAC, APPEL, Gabon Presse Edition, OGAM, UGPC and UPF-Gabon), supported by UNESCO and the Ministry of communication, will organize a discussion forum at the occasion of the World Press freedom Day, on May 3, 2016 in Libreville, Gabon.
The discussion forum will focus on four main topics: Right to information and sustainable development; Promoting access to information – from the culture of secrecy to that of openness; Meeting the challenges of access to information to ensure the right to information; and finally, press freedom in the digital age. The speakers will be academics and communication professionals. Nearly 100 media professionals are expected.
The celebration of the World Press Freedom Day will give the opportunity, among other things, to advocate for the adoption of legal provisions guaranteeing the right to information and promoting access to information.
