Fourth African Solar Energy School
UNESCO organize in partnership with ISESCO and TIKA (Turkish Cooperation Agency) the Fourth African Solar Energy School, to be held from 9 to 13 December 2013 in Dakar, Senegal.
Access to energy is a key factor for achieving the MDGs. Yet, nearly one third of the world's population still has no access to electricity. Population pressure is being an aggravating factor in a context of extreme poverty.
Recognising the role and impact of energy on the sustainable human development, the United Nations declared 2014-2024 Decade of "Sustainable Energy for All".
The African Regional Solar Energy School of UNESCO constitutes a follow-up to activities initiated several years ago, to strengthen the capacity building and development of human resources in renewable energies.
This regional school addresses French speaking African nationals having an academic background and/or professional activities in the area of renewable energies.
The overall goal of this school is to promote the use of renewable energies through:
• Development of local expertise;
• Establishment of dynamic scientific exchange and transfer of know-how;
• Training and qualification of teams of trainers and technicians for the maintenance of solar equipment;
• Development of a network of communication, exchange of experience and cooperation.
