The training of city authorities on inclusive cities will take place from the 28 March to 31 of March 2017 in Nampula, Mozambique. It is being organized by the UNESCO Chair for intermediate cities, with funding from the City of Barcelona, and in collaboration with UNESCO’s Regional Office for Southern Africa, United Cities and Local Government and other partners.
The training’s main objective is to strengthen the capacity of city authorities and other practitioners to use planning processes to tackle challenges related to urbanization, inlcusion and local development.
The training will focus on issues such as the concept of intermediate cities, types of planning strategy (strategic, territorial and urbanistic), types of management for the transformation of cities, and the integration of concepts such as the right to the city and participatory budgeting into planning exercises. The trainees are expected to use this knowledge in their work, promote participatory urban planning, and disseminate further the training material in their constituencies.
