Expert Meeting on Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean
The Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region’s ecosystems are of global significance, including several of the ten most biodiverse countries on the planet. At the same time, global climate change and threats to biodiversity increase the region’s vulnerability to extreme climate phenomena, such as cyclones, flooding, and droughts.
In this context, education systems have a critical role to play in enhancing the mitigation and adaptation capacities of communities. The three-day international expert meeting will therefore focus on the challenges that climate change poses to education systems in the region. It will develop recommendations and a plan of action to promote education as an important means to address climate change in LAC countries.
The conference will further set the stage for UNESCO’s action in support of countries from the region for the recently launched Global Action Programme on Education for Sustainable Development.
