This one-day event aims to reframe the debate about higher education systems and the role of independent research organisations in developing technical skills and providing career incentives for STEM researchers. It will give early career researchers and PhD students the possibility to express their views, ambitions and considerations on higher education world in STEM fields, which is evolving continuously. Moreover, Universities, independent research centers and private sector R&D departments often collaborate with the same aim: to produce and improve global knowledge. For this reason, it is crucial to discuss the evolution of young investigators’ career.

The emerging role of independent or semi-dependent research institutes with different status reflects not only the current state of national oriented research, particularly in Europe, but also the evolution of the high end or big-data research, through the convergence of the private and public sectors in one space. Furthermore, in order to create a synergy among the different actors taking part in the Science and Education scenario, it will be desirable to involve Permanent Delegations, alongside representatives of the local (i.e. Paris-Sud) scientific community and international partners such as CERN and the European Union.

This event is organized jointly by UNESCO and the Synchrotron SOLEIL, following a discussion with Dr Andrea Zitolo, a beam-line scientists at the Synchrotron SOLEIL, to give a voice to PhD and Post-Doc students.
