On 5 May 2014, the Special Thematic Debate on “Culture and Sustainable Development in the Post-2015 Development Agenda” will be convened by the President of the UN General Assembly (PGA), in partnership with UNESCO, at UN Headquarters, in New York. The high-level debate will be opened by the President of the United Nations General Assembly and the UN Deputy Secretary General.
Among the keynote speakers are UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova, UNESCO Special Envoy for Haiti, the Right Hon. Michaëlle Jean, and H.E. Mr Hao Ping, President of the UNESCO General Conference. H.E. Mr. Mohamed Sameh Amr, Chairperson of the UNESCO Executive Board will participate in the panel discussions.
17 Ministers are expected to participate in the day-long debate. This initiative marks a pivotal strategic step in UNESCO’s ongoing advocacy efforts to put culture on the post-2015 development agenda.
