Countrywide workshops in Pakistan - participatory policy making for the creative sector and UNESCO’s 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.

The countrywide workshops will bring together government representatives, creative professionals, academics, as well as representatives from civil society organizations to discuss the growing importance of the creative economy in Pakistan. They will be a platform to listen to creative entrepreneurs discuss their challenges, needs and aspirations in order to elaborate public policies to meet the needs of the stakeholders. This 3rd phase of an ongoing process, will also highlight the importance of evidence-based, transparent policymaking involving key players from the creative sector and collaboration across different ministries at different levels of governments.

The workshop is organized under a project funded by the Danish Development Cooperation Agency (CKU) to raise awareness about UNESCO’s 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions and the importance of developing policies for the creative sector. The 2005 Convention is an international treaty that recognizes the distinctive nature of culture as an important contributor to economic and social development. To date, Pakistan has yet to ratify this Convention.
