Chile conmemorates the 50th Anniversary of the International Literacy Day
The Programme of Education for Youth and Adults of the Ministry of Education of Chile, as part of the “Contigo Aprendo” (“I learn with you”) Initiative, alongside the Regional Office for Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (ORALC/UNESCO Santiago), will celebrate in Santiago the 50th International Literacy Day.
The celebration will take place in the Gabriela Mistral Education Museum (Chacabuco 365, Santiago, Chile) and will include the participation of the Minister of Education of Chile, Adriana Del Piano. Cecilia Barbieri, senior Education Specialist of UNESCO will also address the participants. In the event, testimonies of second chance secondary education students and their teachers will share their experiences.
Also, between September 7 – 9 of 2016, and in the frame of this celebration, the X Paulo Freire International Forum will take place in the Universidad de Santiago de Chile (USACH), which will be an opportunity to share positions. Cecilia Barbieri will also participate in this Forum, representing the Regional Office for Education in Latin America and the Caribbean. The theme of the X Forum is “Pablo Freire and overcoming neoliberalism”.
The Forum is organized by the Pablo Freire Institute of Chile, the Universidad de Santiago de Chile, the Programa Interdisciplinario de Investigaciones en Educación (PIIE), the Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación (UMCE), the Universidad de los Lagos, the Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana and the Universidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano.
