This event will bring forth the meaning of a changing ocean and its impact on society during a panel discussion.

More specifically, it will provide an integrated and updated perspective by ocean experts on climate-related changes, risks and projections for both natural and human systems. It will also review key reports and sources of information on science and policy related to ocean acidification, warming, deoxygenation and sea-level rise, including the major global synthesis of knowledge by IPCC AR5.

The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, Vladimir Ryabinin, will take part in the panel discussion and tackle the issue of how the United Nations can help addressing science challenges related to the ocean and climate change.
