Capacity Building Workshop on Developing Nominations to the Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists in Fiji
This Workshop aims at providing government officials, Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) bearers and practitioners, NGO representatives, academics, and community leaders in Fiji with the opportunity to learn how to develop nomination files for inscription in the ICH Lists established by the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Through lectures, field visit, group exercise and discussions, the participants will obtain knowledge and skills necessary for developing nomination files for the Representative List of the ICH of Humanity and the List of ICH in Need of Urgent Safeguarding. The ICH Representative List aims to ensure better visibility of the ICH and awareness of its significance and to encourage dialogue which respects cultural diversity, while the ICH Urgent Safeguarding List aims to take appropriate safeguarding measures for ICH that require urgent measures in order to make sure their continuing practice and expressions.
The Workshop will be organised by the Department of Heritage and Arts under the Ministry of Education in cooperation with the Ministry of Fiji Affairs and facilitated by UNESCO accredited trainers. This Workshop will be carried out under the Asia-Pacific Capacity Building Programme with financial assistance under UNESCO/Japanese Funds-in-Trust.
