In collaboration with the UNESCO Bioethics Chair at the Universidad Técnica Nacional, a workshop on bioethics will be held at the Colegio de Enfermeras de Costa Rica.

The main objective is to sensitize and raise awareness among nurses about the importance of the bioethical approach to health care issues in Costa Rica. Cases proposed by the nurses will be analysed from the bioethical perspective, with emphasis on the bioethical principles of the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Humans Rights, such as beneficence, justice, equity and vulnerability.

The workshop will begin with an introductory lecture on ethics of care and then a roundtable will follow on the foundations of bioethics and the Universal Declaration of Bioethics and Human Rights (UDBHR). Subsequently, several case-analysis will be presented from the perspective of bioethics in a workshop. The cases will be exposed by the participants while the workshop takes place. A special emphasis will be placed on the bioethical principles of UDBHR such as beneficence, justice, equity and vulnerability
