This session of the IGBC will be mainly devoted to examining the work done by the International Bioethics Committee (IBC) in the 2012-2013 biennium. The IGBC will therefore examine the Report of the IBC on Traditional Medicine and their Ethical Implications as finalized by the IBC in February 2013; and the Draft Report of the IBC on the Principle of Non-Discrimination and Non-Stigmatization which was discussed during the 20th Session of the IBC.
Members of the IGBC will also be given the opportunity to express their opinion on the preliminary future work programme of the IBC for 2014-2015.
Furthermore, in order to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the UNESCO Bioethics Programme, two items on the agenda will provide a retrospective look at past achievements and lessons learnt, and a forward looking perspective on the future of UNESCO’s actions in the field of bioethics.
A celebration event for the 20th Anniversary is also scheduled for the afternoon of Friday, 6 September 2013, after the official closure of the 8th Session of the IGBC.
The Intergovernmental Bioethics Committee (IGBC) is comprised of 36 Member States whose representatives meet at least once every two years to examine the advice and recommendations of the International Bioethics Committee (IBC).
