What is happening with climate change? Where are we today when it comes to gender equality? What is going to happen with our jobs? How do we hold governments accountable for their decisions? How do we stop corruption?

All these questions cannot be answered by anyone without access to information. On 28 September, UNESCO will organize the IPDCtalks, a highly dynamic event where high-profile speakers will deliver an inspiring talk about the essential role that access to information, independent and free media and freedom of expression play to achieve a sustainable future. Amongst the speakers will be prominent journalists (e.g. Amy Goodman from Democracy Now! and Audrey Pulvar from CANAL+), global leaders from the public and civil society sector (e.g. Salil Shetty, Secretary-General of Amnesty International and Tarja Halonen, former Prime-Minister of Finland) as well as community leaders and human rights activists. For more information about the programme, please visit the recently launched IPDCtalks website: http://en.unesco.org/ipdc-talks

The IPDCtalks will allow the audience to discuss with these global leaders during the event. There are limited spots available; please register now to attend the IPDCtalks in Paris on 28 September via the online registration form.

Individuals who are interested in asking questions online about the essential role of access to information are cordially invited to do so via Twitter by using #IPDCtalks and #AccessToInfo. The speakers will answer a selection of questions during the IPDCtalks.

Please watch the IPDCtalks video in which Christophe DeloireSecretary-General of Reporters Without Borders explains why access to information is essential for our society.
