The 1st General Assembly of the Asia Water Council and the Water Business Forum in Bali
On the occasion of the 1st General Assembly of the Asia Water Council (AWC) held in Bali, Indonesia, Blanca Jiménez-Cisneros, the Secretary of the International Hydrological Programme (IHP) and Director of the Division of Water Sciences, UNESCO, will deliver speeches in the AWC Special Session to introduce the coverage of IHP’s work and share ideas on the possible cooperation and collaboration between the IHP and the AWC. She will also participate in other relevant activities of the event.
Alongside the General Assembly, the AWC Secretariat and the Korea Water Forum jointly organize the simultaneous Water Business Forum. IHP will present in this Forum activities and achievements of the UNESCO Water Family at an exhibition booth sponsored by the organizers. UNESCO Office in Jakarta supports the exhibition.
Initially supported by the Indonesian government, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency, the AWC was launched in 2015 on the occasion of the 4th Asian Water High Level Round Table, aiming at promoting regional cooperation and collaboration toward water sustainability. The General Assembly is the authoritative meeting of the AWC that is attended by all members of AWC. The Assembly is convened once every year on an ordinary basis and extraordinary assemblies can be summoned in case of the special request by the Board of Members. Among other things, this year the Assembly will discharge following issues during the three days: Election of the Board of Council members, Special Session for Water Project, the 1st meeting of the Board of Council and meetings for Special Committees.
During the first two days of the Assembly, exhibitors composed of water related organizations in the region and among the members of the AWC will take the opportunity of the Water Business Forum to exchange with the participants of the General Assembly.
