At the aftermath of the International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures (2010), the project on “Toolkit on revision/adaptation of curricula, school textbooks and other learning materials to remove cultural, religious and gender-biased stereotypes” was launched (2012) in line with UNESCO’s efforts to provide appropriate tools to correct erroneous collective representations in school curricula and to encourage better mutual understanding.
This project includes several components, among which policy action, with expert meetings to promote quality education and the use of textbooks and learning materials as tools for transmitting values and skills that are essential to building and maintaining peace by removing cultural, religious and gender biased stereotypes.
The project’s objectives are two-fold:
(i) revising two sets of UNESCO materials: a comprehensive strategy for textbooks and learning materials’ publication and the Draft Action Plan; and
(ii) designing the outlines and format of a practical tool for writing textbooks and learning materials.
Achievements of this projects are as follows:
- Expert Meeting on curriculum revision, UNESCO Paris, September 2012
- Rabat Workshop (Rabat, Morocco, May 2013)
The project is coordinated by the Education Sector
