The project aims at strengthening cultural development at the local level through the formulation and implementation of cultural policies and programs and capacity-building. Expected results of the project include: having a cultural policy and program adopted in the main communes of 13 regions in Burkina Faso; strengthening the capacities of the locally elected officials and cultural players, as well as the representatives of civil society of the main communes of the 13 regions; creating and maintaining forums for local and national cooperation.

In June 2014, Burkina Faso's Ministry of Culture and Tourism, with the support from UNESCO's International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD), started an 18-month project to decentralize cultural policies in the country. The objective is to contribute to national development through the implementation of local cultural policies.
