4.2 Brief summary of the project:
This Project aims to empower talented students in music composition through providing schools with musical instrument and providing the targeted students with the required skills through intensive training. and establish choirs in 6 schools in the city of Nablus and counterpart schools " two schools" in Vienna, Austria. Youth from two distinct cultures will both produce and perform songs together in English and Arabic with the guidance of professional musicians, sharing their music and lyrics, and culminating in a recording and live performance that celebrates both the differences and commonalities between people of two very distinct cultures. Local context and complementary of the project with the regional, national and local polices \ measures \ programs, specific needs etc. Music is invaluable in terms of the study of one’s own and other cultures, strengthening and preserving one’s sense of cultural identity and history, expressing one’s culture regionally and internationally, and facilitating connections between cultures, regions and communities. As music can portray a specific message, Music Without Borders aims to establish intercultural dialogue between nations, with the aim of using music to traverse barriers between, and educate students about, different cultures. As such, we hope to educate our youth about the beauty of different cultures and traditions, as well as foster shared, common values as embodied in universality of music when such an appreciation and awareness, in Palestine particularly, has been so compromised by politics and occupation., it is also fantastic for reaching out, relieving stress, enhancing creativity, developing problem-solving abilities, and building leadership, negotiation, and social skills and building a form of dialogue
4.3 Local context and complementarity of the project with other regional, national and local policies/ measures/ programmes/ projects:
Being future leaders of their local community, children of Nablus should be acquainted with new tools of expression and given equal opportunity to their peers in other countries. This chance, if given, will play an essential role in children social behaviour and will promote creative thinking among them through deviating their way of thinking from violence and aggression attitudes led by every day scenes of violence, death and blood shedding into more peaceful behaviour. Not less significant factor is that related to the dictation ship methods of teaching predominates inside the class. Such traditional stereotype exhibited among teachers has never been improved since the last four decades of Palestinian history of education. This project will not examine in details the socio-economic factors behind such methods of traditional teaching methods, it will provide children with the necessary tools for creative thinking and education while partially contribute to heave tension and suffering . Through teaching and promoting composition as well as performance, we aim to encourage a far more active and creative engagement with music, with the hope that this can help both generate and sustain an interest in music and musical participation with others, both regionally and internationally. And to promote the usage of music not only as a tool for psychological relief but also as a tool for intercultural dialogue between nations. 1. Students offered only one music class a week, and often this includes a very rudimentary education in music theory. As such, and crucial dimensions of music are neglected –such as composition, performance, and the writing of lyrics 2. Instruments are not provided in schools, meaning schools tend to prioritize theory over performance. 3. Composition is not taught in schools in Palestine 4. Music teachers are trained in musicology but are not professionals, and as a result are not able to give students a more comprehensive education in music.
