Second edition of the Latin American and Caribbean online Film Festival
In the framework of the Latin American and Caribbean Week, which will be celebrated at UNESCO Headquarters from May 30 to June 2, 2022, the second edition of the Latin American and Caribbean Film Festival (SALC 2022) has as its theme "Cultural and Creative Industries and the African Heritage in Latin America and the Caribbean". Following the first edition of the Film Festival held in 2019, the SALC 2022 Festival offers a wide selection of documentaries, short and feature films made by Latin American and Caribbean producers around this year's theme. From 30 May 30 to 3 June 2022, the selected films will be made entirely available online to the public and will be shown at UNESCO Headquarters.
UNESCO supports the development of the Latin America film industry
Deeply concerned with the challenges faced by Latin American filmmakers, UNESCO rolled out extensive support through the International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD) to the Ministry of Culture of Colombia and its counterparts in Peru, Ecuador, Mexico, Uruguay. Thus, the project Retina Latina: Strengthening the Latin American film industry in the digital age contributed to shaping Retina Latina into the renowned cinema digital platform it is today, where audience from as far as Spain, the United States or Switzerland can enjoy cinematic art pieces from a vast array of Latin American producers for free.
