Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA)

The Swedish government, via its development agency, SIDA, is funding a project entitled “Enhancing fundamental freedoms through the promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions” from 2014-2017. The US$2.5 million contribution is designed to strengthen national and global capacities for the development of good governance for culture.

The project’s first component is designed to strengthen reporting capacities in beneficiary countries to enable the submission of their Quadrennial Periodic Report (a statutory obligation for Parties). With support from the Expert Facility, 12 countries were able to submit their first Quadrennial Periodic Report.

The project’s second component provides funding for the production of two editions of a global monitoring report. The Global Report, released biennially is a tool to track progress and share information on the implementation of the Convention. It also analyses emerging trends, provides examples of innovative policies and proposed new indicators to monitor progress over time.
