9th UNESCO Youth Forum

African Youth Combatting Climate Change and Promoting Peace

Organized by the UNESCO Liaison Office in Addis Ababa, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the African Union Commission (AUC), the Pan-African Youth Network on the Culture of Peace (PAYNCoP) and the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in collaboration with UNESCO's Africa Department.

The session serves as a platform by youth for youth to provide training on how to capitalize on Africa’s youth demographics by strengthening their skills, expertise, and knowledge to enable them to develop solutions to pressing climate issues while promoting a culture of peace in Africa at a grassroots level. It also seeks to harmonize the key youth priorities within the current UNFCCC talks, feed into the ongoing policy and practice trajectory of the climate talks, unpack the linkages between climate change on the one hand and peace and security in Africa on the other, and shape the African youth agenda ahead of the COP21 and beyond.
